TRANSPOSE Burn: Pit Party

In this three-stage performance at the Barbican , which included screen-based video art, dance, singing, MustKika performed the anonymous folk song "Ey Bostancı Bir Bostan Ver'' and presented a chereography blending traditional belly dancing with experimental sound.

While preparing for their participation, they have produced a new artist film titled "HIZ," which was screened at The Pit during Transpose BURN. Inspired by the so-called "hîz oğlanı," male sex workers in the Ottoman Empire, in this short film, Mustafa occuied the Turkish hammam (bath) and embodies the character of the "hîz oğlan". In the end of the short film, MustKika begins to belly dance and blends this homosocial temporality with a separate but concurrent history of queerness in the Ottoman Empire - that of the male belly dancer.
