BIO:
MustKİKA (with birth name Mustafa Kınalı) is a multidisciplinary performer, combining textile design, concept development in dance and technical make-up capability in their practice born in Istanbul, Turkey. Their research-based practice integrates forms of belly dance and examines its social impact and history. Through the blending of contemporary drag and traditional “köçek” (belly dance), MustKika interrogates the relationship between modern ideologies of the gender binary and narratives of modernity. By experimenting with an interdisciplinary approach that integrates video art, singing, acting and choreography, MustKika embodies the zenne dancer as a queer ghost, returning to haunt (and seduce) the present.
